Creating Spatial Videos to Watch on an Apple Vision Pro

3D videos have been around for a long time. They’re now going by a new name that you might’ve heard more recently thanks to the Apple Vision Pro (AVP)—Spatial Video.

What makes Spatial Video different from other 3D videos you might already have (or seen)? It’s more space efficient meaning it takes less space to record that content.  Which is great if you’re recording new material right now, with the latest technology at-hand. But what about legacy content?

LeiaSR™: Transforming 2D Video into Spatial Video

Converting your old photos and videos into 3D has been one of Leia’s strengths for some time now. Even the most prolific writer would be challenged to describe what it’s like because you really need to experience it for yourself, but the best analogy we’ve heard recently comes from Andrii Tsarov, Leia’s SWE Director of AI/ML “It’s like trying to describe color TV to someone who has been watching Black & White sets up to that point. That’s how big a change it is for 3D / Spatial Video from traditional viewing. It’s something that we’ve been pushing for years with our LeiaSR™ tech.”

Whether we’re talking about all the LeiaSR-powered displays we showed off at CES or even the AVP, watching 3D movies in the comfort of your home or on-the-go makes total sense.

“However,” Andrii cautions, “not every movie benefits from this format. The best are scenes with close-ups of people, talking in-frame — it feels like you're almost in the same room!”

Watch Side-By-Side (SBS) / Spatial Video Samples Today

That’s why we decided to capture a couple sample video scenes from very different types of films and convert them with our LeiaSR™ tech.

Can you spot the differences? We’ve uploaded SBS 3D supercuts as well as a few Spatial Video samples. All of them are great for testing out 3D on your own device!
